We have been getting a minimum of one spam bot per day.

This has correlated with the complete lack of ANY posting on the site.

Since we did not used to get quite this many spam bots and this complete lack of posts is irregular, the correlation may in fact be causation.

So this experiment will leave all other variables constant, except the facet in question: posting, in an attempt to determine if board activity (number of posts) affects the occurrence of spam bot sign-ups.

My hypothesis is that spam bots are like vultures, preying on a dead site. I believe that activity (life) will deter them. If my hypothesis is correct I expect to see a marked decrease in spam bot sign-ups (to less than one per day). If my hypothesis is incorrect I expect to see no change in the frequency of spam bot sign-ups.

Two spambots today. So far no signs of improvement. Delay possible before improvement.

A total of three spambots today. I begin to consider that if my hypothesis is false, a possible explanation is that the recent activity actually draws the spambots. It would have a certain logic behind it.

An observation: today's three spambots have shown a trend towards usernames and emails with more word or name resemblance in them, as opposed to the previous desperate conglomerations of letters shown in other spambots.
